What would science fiction be without sci-fi babes? It would be 2001: A Space Odyssey. Ahem. I've been thinking about sci-fi babes. Okay maybe more than thinking but I won't get into that. A-N-Y-W-H-O, the origins of the sci-fi babe goes back to the pulp mags of the 50s when the predominate readership were pubescent males. Throughout the decades the sci-fi babe has remained.

Is it sexist or not? IMO, no. (Besides, "what's wrong with being sexy?") The sci-fi babe is almost always intelligent and capable. She is not just eye candy. Most of the time, she is capable, intelligent and plays a hero role. She is not the typical dasmal in distress. "Enough of my yappin’. Let’s boogie!"

Here is a list of my favorites.

From Film:
Linda Harrison - Nova - Planet of the Apes
Carrie Fisher - Slave Leia - Return of the Jedi
Mathilda May - Space Vampire - Lifeforce
Sigourney Weaver - Gwen DeMarco - Galaxy Quest (Oh yeah and that other film)
Carrie Anne Moss - Trinity - The Matrix
Scarlett Johansson - Jordan Two Delta - The Island
Megan Fox - Mikaela Banes - Transformers

From TV Series:
Barbara Luna - Marlena Moreau - 'Mirror, Mirror' Star Trek
Terry Farrell - Jadzia Dax - Deep Space Nine
Jeri Ryan - Seven of Nine - Voyager
Claudia Black - Aeryn Sun - Farscape

Then there are groups of babes, for example:
The X-Men babes: Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, and Rebecca Romijn
The Firefly babes: Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, and Summer Glau
The BSG babes: Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Lucy Lawless, Katee Sackhoff, and Kandyse McClure

Now it's your turn...

I was never a huge fan of Carrie Fisher. I will say tho that in Return of the Jedi she was looking as good as she could ever look. She seemed to have aged really fast after that.

I must also say that Natasha Henstridge from Species was a BIG TIME favorite of mine for years. I would like to see how she looks nowadays... I'm guessing still smoking hot.

Agreed 100% on Terry Farrell and Jeri Ryan. Star Trek producers knew how to pick them. :)

Hey chatham,

Welcome to the forum. It's good to have you.

Carrie suffers from bipolar disorder which in turn led to drug and alcohol abuse. The meds that keep a person stable unfortunately cause weight gain amongst a volley of other nasty side effects.

oh wow... I had no idea. thats some crazy stuff... whats even more sad is considering how well star wars did, she still is the 2nd most successful person to come out of the movies behind Harrison Ford. The rest had 0 careers post the movie.

Prior to recently Sci-fi films were considered B-movies and getting Hollywood's cream of the crop just didn't happen. Nowadays, almost all the top-grossing films are fantasy or sci-fi flicks. The casts are filled with upcoming or established stars.

When Lucas filmed Star Wars, he wanted unknowns for the main roles. I guess so he could ruin their careers. I'm just joking. It's amazing how much people slag off the films and it's creator.

With the prequel films, people just ripped 'em apart. I used to defend them but after a while that gets tired too. Let's face it, they were technological and visual masterpieces yet dramatic trite.

That is a good point. Amazing how things can change in a matter of a few years.
